welcoming joy to our holidays

When asked what his favorite gift was this Christmas, Tyler chuckled as he explained to our guests that it is was the foot-controlled light dimmer that Todd gave him. Last year, Tyler decorated his headboard with Christmas lights and each night when he settles into bed to scroll insta and snap-chat his friends, apparently he likes to add mood-lighting. Todd paid attention as Tyler plugged his lights into an extension cord, and got him a switch that he can control with a tap. Tyler’s lights inspired me to add outdoor lighting to our porch which creates a party atmosphere which instantly shifts my mood when they turn on each evening (because of course Todd has them on a timer). Simple mood lifts for under $35!

Another thing that brightened my mood this holiday season was giving up the traditional Christmas dinner we typically prepare. This year I ordered platters of chicken-parm from a local family who caterers in Sudbury; Nick Chunias of Juliana’s Catering. No reheating dishes or looking for serving spoons as guests arrive, and the clean-up was a piece of cake. I simply tossed a salad, opened lids and served the most delicious italian dinner which everyone devoured. And I spend a lot LESS money than if I had cooked the entire traditional dinner. We hosted the biggest crowd of family and were able to truly enjoy their visit. Best part? I put the leftovers in the freezer and we will eat them this week when I start my new job. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

With excessive family time, also comes drama, but nothing compares to the Roy family on HBO’s Succession. Any issues we have pale in comparison with this crazy family! Todd and I became obsessed with this show in our apres holiday haze and once you watch both seasons, read this funny article that Loren shared with me.

What little tweaks did you make this holiday season to improve your experience and bring in more JOY? Please share so we can adopt them for ourselves!

XOXO,

Sami
